Job Summary
The QA/QC Coating Inspector will perform coating inspections on Tank and Vessel lining, Spool and Pipe coating, Equipment Painting, Structural Steel, Foam Insulation, Internal Pipe Lining and fireproofing in accordance with NACE certification standards and Altus Energy’s strict quality standards in both field and facility settings.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Able to perform advanced coating inspections using non-destructive and destructive testing techniques.
- Comply with relevant International Codes and Standards, National Standards and Regulatory Requirements
- The ability to compile and write reports, condition surveys, failure analysis and refurbishment.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to interpret isometric/construction drawings
- Ability to interpret and understand the relevant codes and standards
- Client oriented approach with emphasis on understanding and fulfilling the needs of the client
Skills and Experience Required
- Three to five years previous blasting and spraying experience. Must be thoroughly familiar with blast and painting equipment and safety procedures.
- Strong team and customer service a must.
- Experience with airless spray applicators for both internal and external coating and lining applications.
- Experience with conventional spray application.
- Experience with abrasive blasting on the internal and external of tanks, vessels and piping.
- Internal pipe coating with airless or conventional spray equipment a preferred attribute.
- Thermal Arc and Plural component spray application a preferred attribute.
- Extensive knowledge of quality control for internal and external coatings.
Education and Training Required
- At least 10 years in the protective coatings industry with at least 2 years working as a coating inspector
- Detail oriented with a dedication to the quality control and quality assurance process; ability to understand and read complex design and fabrication plans and specifications;
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with ability to communicate technical issues to the Project Manager, clients, and the fabrication facility?
- Proficient use of modern communication and computer equipment including cell phones and laptop computers
- Ability to multi-task and properly execute multiple simultaneous assignments without sacrificing efficiency or quality of the work;
- Team player willing to work with clients, field staff, other Altus Energy offices.
Education and Training Required
- Certified by NACE II with Peer Review
- Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training

Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing and walking required throughout the day.
- Frequent climbing, stooping, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and twisting are required.
- May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to wear a full-face respirator for extended periods.
- May be required to work in extremely tight spaces or on elevated platforms.
- In lead abatement situations, must have blood lead levels within an acceptable limit
