Job Summary
Surface preparation, the operation of power tools and the setup/operation of paint and blast equipment. Performs duties involved with all aspects of coating preparation.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead in the preparation and execution of Coatings projects. Must be able to do the following:
- Setup of all blast pots, route blast lines, air lines, and lighting in accordance with OSHA standards and perform minor repairs of all blast pots and spray pumps.
- Ensure all pot tenders are aware of proper functions of blast pots and communication signals between blaster and pot tender. Inspect all pots and lines before and after each shift.
- Ensure enough blast media; onsite paint is available for the day’s operation.
- Set-up paint pumps, run lines, run lighting and mask in accordance with OSHA/company standards.
- Ensure paint tender is aware of mixing procedures for the particular coating being used.
- Must possess working knowledge of preservation coatings applications work.
- Ability to supervise and provide general guidance for technicians on project work as needed.

Skills and Experience Required
- Three to five years previous blasting and spraying experience. Must be thoroughly familiar with blast and painting equipment and safety procedures.
- Strong team and customer service a must.
- Experience with airless spray applicators for both internal and external coating and lining applications.
- Experience with conventional spray application.
- Experience with abrasive blasting on the internal and external of tanks, vessels and piping.
- Internal pipe coating with airless or conventional spray equipment a preferred attribute.
- Thermal Arc and Plural component spray application a preferred attribute.
- Extensive knowledge of quality control for internal and external coatings.
Education and Training Required
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing and walking required throughout the day.
- Frequent climbing, stooping, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and twisting are required.
- May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to wear a full-face respirator for extended periods.
- May be required to work in extremely tight spaces or on elevated platforms.
- In lead abatement situations, must have blood lead levels within an acceptable limit
